Getting there is pretty easy...
Depending on how you drive, from Baltimore the trip usually takes 2 1/2 hours to 3 hours. It's mostly highway driving, and once you get past Fredrick it's full speed ahead.
The directions assume you are coming from the East and that you know how to find Rt. 70. If in doubt, use Mapquest to find Swanton. From there, use my two maps. Mapquest will direct you a shorter way, but it is a slightly longer drive with additional chances to err.
First things first. Get on 70 west and keep going. You will pass Fredrick and you will keep going.
Eventually, you will see signs for 68 west. When you start seeing these signs, stay left. Missing 68 will cost you about a 20 mile delay to turn around. Once on 68 west you will go though Cumberland, Frostburg and you will keep going until 495 South.
495 is only a two lane road and it makes a lot of twists and turns. Keep heading South following signs for Swanton, from 68 it's about 20 miles away..
495 will come to a very abrupt stop, coming to a "T". 495 will continue to the right. Swanton will be on your left.
At the stop make a LEFT. You will be driving through a very small town. If you don't see the town with a general store on the right, you turned left someplace bad. Once you cross the Rail Road tracks you will be heading up a mountian.
On the right hand side of the road you will see a yellow gate blocking a rough looking driveway. SUV owners, the gate is closed but unlocked. Drive on up. Car owners, park at the gate. Try not to block the access. If the road doesn't look too bad, car people you can drive up. There is a clearing about two thirds of the way to camp. It's a pretty good place to park without going through all the mud and what not.
Follow the drive always to the right. It splits.
At this point, grab a beer.
